The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be joining the competitive circuit anytime soon. Dive into the details about Pokémon TCG Pocket’s trajectory in the competitive gaming world and explore the potential reasons behind this decision.
As it stands, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not slated to join the Pokémon competitive circuit. In an interview with VGC on February 25, 2025, The Pokémon Company's Director of eSports, Chris Brown, shared that while they continually assess potential additions to the competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn't on the immediate horizon.
Brown humorously mentioned, "Pokemon Sleep is out there too," referencing the company's April Fool's jest about a Pokemon Sleep Champion Tournament. However, he firmly stated, "But at this time, there are no plans for Pokemon Pocket to join, though we’re always looking at things."
While The Pokémon Company has not provided explicit reasons for keeping Pokémon TCG Pocket out of competitive play, fans have their theories. The game, launched in October 2024, is still in its infancy, with only two sets released in its four months of existence.
Although Pokémon TCG Pocket includes competitive features from the start, the community has been vocal about the need for better game balance. The game presents a streamlined version of the traditional Pokémon TCG, designed to be more approachable for beginners. This focus on accessibility rather than competition may explain its current exclusion from the competitive circuit.
Despite this, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit continues to thrive with events across Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, all of which will be showcased at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.
