Sony's PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures are bringing the acclaimed video game Helldivers 2 to the big screen. The exciting news was revealed at CES 2025 by PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash, who stated, "We are thrilled to announce that we've commenced development on a film adaptation of our hugely popular game, Helldivers 2." While specifics remain under wraps, fans can anticipate spectacular space combat sequences on the silver screen.

Developed by Arrowhead Studios, Helldivers 2, a shooter drawing inspiration from Starship Troopers, quickly became a PlayStation Studios bestseller, surpassing 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. The game's popularity surged further with the Illuminate update, reintroducing a familiar enemy faction from the original Helldivers.

In related news, a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is also in the works, a joint venture between PlayStation Productions and Columbia Pictures—the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted movie. Qizilbash offered an initial glimpse into the project, promising, "We are in the early stages of the Horizon Zero Dawn film, but we can already assure viewers: this universe and its characters will receive their first-ever cinematic portrayal."
