Overwatch 2 Reveals New China-Exclusive Events

Overwatch 2 is making a triumphant return to China on February 19, coinciding with the start of Season 15. This relaunch is set to be a grand affair, offering Chinese players the chance to earn rewards from Seasons 1 through 9, participate in exciting in-game events, and enjoy skin bundles inspired by Chinese mythology. The anticipation is high as the Chinese Overwatch 2 community prepares to dive back into the action on Future Earth.

The announcement of Overwatch 2's return to China came with a technical test that ran from January 8 to January 15. This test allowed fans to experience much of the content they missed, including Overwatch: Classic and the six new heroes introduced since the servers went offline in China during Season 2. Following the successful test, Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller shared exciting news on Xiaohongshu (also known as RedNote) about a multi-week "Return to China" celebration. This event will feature popular in-game events and rewards that Chinese players have missed over the past two years. Additionally, all Chinese players will have the opportunity to earn Battle Pass rewards from Seasons 1 and 2 before the game's relaunch, and from Seasons 3 through 9 through in-game events post-relaunch.

Chinese Mythology – Theme for Overwatch 2 Season 15?

Keller also teased that Overwatch 2 Season 15 will include skin bundles inspired by Chinese mythology. While details are scarce, it's unclear whether these skins will be new or existing, exclusive to China, or part of a broader Chinese mythology theme for Season 15. This season's theme could mirror the Norse mythology-inspired cosmetics seen in Season 14.

The global Overwatch 2 community won't have to wait long for more information, as Season 15 is scheduled to begin on February 18, just before the game's official relaunch in China. With just over a month to go, players can expect to learn more about the upcoming season soon, with a full reveal likely in early February.

In the meantime, fans can participate in the "Min 1, Max 3" 6v6 test from January 21 through February 4, featuring the classic 2-2-2 team composition. Additionally, the Lunar New Year and the Moth Meta Overwatch: Classic events are set to occur before Season 15. While Chinese players may miss out on these events, they can look forward to their own special celebrations upon the game's return.
