According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures has tapped Bay, known for directing the Transformers series, to helm and produce the OutRun movie. Sweeney, who has made a name for herself in both television and film, will also serve as a producer. Jayson Rothwell has been brought on board to pen the screenplay, though plot details remain under wraps and no release date has been announced.

On the Sega front, Toru Nakahara, a key figure in the Sonic movie franchise, will produce the film.
