Development on The Outer Worlds 2 is progressing smoothly, as shared by Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart. Alongside the eagerly awaited sequel, the studio is also diligently working on their upcoming fantasy RPG, Avowed. Urquhart recently provided insights into the development of these titles during an interview with Limit Break Network on YouTube, expressing confidence in the team's efforts.

Obsidian Entertainment Confident About Upcoming New Titles

Urquhart highlighted the team's dedication and experience, noting that many members who worked on the original The Outer Worlds are also involved in its sequel. "I’m impressed with the team," he stated. "We have a lot of people on that game that get it—who have worked on the first one and have been with us for a long time. So I’ve actually been really impressed by it."

The CEO also reflected on the challenges faced by the studio, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic and after their acquisition by Microsoft. At one point, the team was stretched thin across multiple projects including Grounded and Pentiment, leading to a period where the studio struggled to maintain its usual standards. "We were kind of a crappy developer for about a year, year and a half," Urquhart admitted. There were even discussions about halting work on The Outer Worlds 2 to focus on Avowed, but ultimately, Obsidian decided to continue with all projects.

"We got acquired [in 2018], and we were figuring out how to be acquired, and then Covid happens, and we're trying to get Outer Worlds done, and we're trying to get the DLC done, and we're trying to move Avowed forward, and we want to start again on Outer Worlds 2, get Outer Worlds 2 moving, and Grounded moving, and Josh is working on Pentiment," Urquhart recounted.

Despite these challenges, Urquhart remains optimistic. He praised the successful outcomes of Grounded and Pentiment, and expressed enthusiasm about the current state of both Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2. "Avowed is looking great, and The Outer Worlds 2 is looking incredible," he said, though specific details about the games' content were not disclosed. With Avowed now scheduled for release in 2025, similar adjustments to the timeline of The Outer Worlds 2 are anticipated.

Announced in 2021, The Outer Worlds 2 has seen minimal updates since. Urquhart acknowledged the possibility of a delay, similar to that experienced with Avowed. However, he reassured fans that Obsidian is committed to delivering quality games. "We will get there with all these games," he affirmed. "Are they going to be on the timelines that we originally thought? No. But we’re going to get there, and I think that’s been proven now." Both titles are expected to be available on PC and Xbox Series S/X.
