Osmos Reborn: Returns to Google Play

Author:Kristen Update:Dec 15,2024

Osmos, the acclaimed cell-absorbing puzzle game, returns to Android! Previously removed due to playability issues stemming from outdated porting technology, it's back with a completely revamped version.

Remember the unique physics-based gameplay of Osmos? Absorb other microorganisms, but avoid becoming prey yourself! This simple yet engaging concept made it a hit, but Android users were left in the cold—until now.

Years after its 2010 debut, Osmos is finally available on Google Play with a brand-new, modern Android port. Experience this micro-organic battle royale at its finest.

Developer Hemisphere Games explains in a blog post that initial Android development, aided by Apportable, hit a snag when the porting studio closed, preventing further updates. The game was subsequently removed due to incompatibility with modern Android systems (only running on obsolete 32-bit devices). Now, it's back, rebuilt from the ground up!

Osmos feels like a nostalgic gem, well worth revisiting. It represents a time when mobile gaming felt limitless, a feeling many hope to recapture.

Of course, there are many excellent brain-teasers available for mobile, even if none are quite as visually stunning as Osmos. If you need more options, check out our list of the top 25 best puzzle games for iOS and Android.
