"Oblivion Remastered's Top Mod Boosts PC Performance"

Author:Kristen Update:May 01,2025

If you're among the countless fans of *The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered* on PC, you may have encountered more than a few technical hiccups. According to the tech gurus at Digital Foundry, the game's performance on PC is nothing short of "dire." Alex Battaglia, a video producer for the site, described it as "perhaps one of the worst-running games I've ever tested for Digital Foundry."

"Even if you're equipped with the most powerful hardware on the market, the stuttering is so bad that it severely undermines the gaming experience. It's baffling how this was deemed acceptable for release," Battaglia remarked. He further noted that the game is unusually resource-intensive, stating, "Even if you can tolerate the constant stuttering, you'll need to dial back the settings just to maintain a reasonable frame rate."

PlayIt's no wonder, then, that the most popular mod for *Oblivion Remastered* on Nexus Mods is P40L0's 'Ultimate Engine Tweaks (Anti-Stutters - Lower Latency - No Film Grain - No Chromatic Aberration - Lossless),' which has been downloaded an astonishing 386,604 times in just under a week.

Here’s the mod's description: "Definitive Unreal ‘Engine.ini’ changes aimed at eliminating most stutters, enhancing performance and stability, reducing input latency, and improving visual clarity—all without sacrificing visual quality."

P40L0 elaborated on the mod, stating, "After extensive testing with UE5, I wanted to share my definitive custom ‘Engine.ini’ modifications for the game. My aim was to incorporate as many optimizations as possible across CPU, GPU, RAM, and SSD to eradicate most stuttering, boost performance, decrease input latency, and enhance image quality by eliminating Film Grain and Chromatic Aberration, optimizing DLSS/FSR upscaling, and more, all without introducing visual loss or causing glitches or crashes."

The response from users who've downloaded the mod has been overwhelmingly positive. "Stutter be gone! Simply amazing, thanks!" exclaimed chubbyd07. "This .ini is a miracle. From 15-20 fps outside the prison to 65-70 stable. Running on 3600XT and a 2060 with 20GB of RAM (yes)," added yeeto51. "Uhm, what the hell! I went from 60fps on High Preset around Waynon Priory to 90-110fps on the same location. Wizardry!!" said BabaSmith.

Despite its PC performance issues, *Oblivion Remastered* remains incredibly popular, boasting an impressive peak concurrent player count on Steam and over 4 million players across all platforms. On Steam, the game enjoys a 'very positive' user review rating.

However, a recent hotfix deployed on April 25 has impacted Microsoft Store players' UI settings for graphics, particularly affecting upscaling and anti-aliasing options. Currently, those playing via Game Pass for PC cannot adjust these settings due to this issue. Bethesda has confirmed they are actively addressing the problem.
