Nvidia Issues RTX 5090 and 5080 Stock Shortage Warning to PC Gamers Ahead of Hotly Anticipated Release Date

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 are set to launch on January 30th, but reports from retailers and manufacturers suggest significant shortages are likely. Consumers are already lining up outside stores in anticipation, highlighting the immense demand for these high-end GPUs, despite their hefty price tags of $1,999 and $999 respectively.

Manufacturer MSI, citing the Lunar New Year (Chinese New Year), attributes the initial scarcity to production disruptions. They anticipate stock levels will improve throughout February.

Retailers like Overclockers UK have reported receiving only a handful of RTX 5090 units, and limited RTX 5080 stock. PowerGPU echoed these concerns, predicting extremely low availability for the RTX 5090 launch.

In response to growing concerns, Nvidia representative Tim@Nvidia issued a statement acknowledging the anticipated high demand and potential stock-outs. They reassured consumers that Nvidia and its partners are actively working to increase supply.

However, the limited supply is already attracting scalpers. eBay listings show pre-sale offers for the RTX 5090 at prices significantly exceeding the MSRP; one Asus ROG Astral RTX 5090 is listed for $5,750—a staggering 187% markup.

Adding to Nvidia's challenges, their share price dropped significantly following the announcement of the Chinese AI model DeepSeek, raising concerns about the potential impact on their datacenter GPU sales. This adds another layer of complexity to their current situation.
