Nintendo Switch Games Upgraded for Switch 2: Breath of the Wild, Metroid Prime 4

Author:Kristen Update:May 04,2025

During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled exciting news for fans: nearly the entire Nintendo Switch catalog will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. However, a select group of games will receive special "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" upgrades, featuring enhanced gameplay and exclusive features. Titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree are among those getting the upgrade treatment.

Each game's benefits vary. Super Mario Party: Jamboree introduces "Jamboree TV", enhancing gameplay with mouse controls, audio recognition, more expressive rumble, and utilizing a new camera accessory. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will boast enhanced resolution, framerate, and HDR support, along with a new "Zelda Notes" feature on the Nintendo Switch Online app. This service includes voice guidance for finding Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land gets a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, titled Star-Crossed World, alongside improved graphics and framerates. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls, 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will offer better resolution and framerates.

These upgraded editions will be available in both physical and digital formats. For owners of the original Switch versions of Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby, upgrade packs will be available for purchase.

The presentation also highlighted third-party games receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, such as Civilization 7 with mouse support and Street Fighter 6 featuring exclusive game modes.

Nintendo first hinted at these "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games last week via a webpage footnote about the new Virtual Game Card system, noting that these games cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via this method.
