Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour: A Paid Experience

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 25,2025

Nintendo has unveiled the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, a unique digital game set to launch alongside the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. Contrary to what many might expect, this game won't be bundled with the console but will be available as a separate, paid digital title on the Nintendo eShop starting on the Switch 2's launch day.

During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour was introduced as a "virtual exhibition" designed to familiarize players with the new hardware. According to Nintendo, the game features tech demos, minigames, and interactive elements that provide an in-depth look at the system's capabilities. Players will navigate a virtual environment as a small avatar, exploring a giant representation of the Switch 2, and learning about its features through interactive displays and mini-games such as Speed Golf, Dodge the Spiked Balls, and a Maracas Physics Demo.

Although the concept of the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour is appealing, it has sparked some controversy among fans who question why it isn't included as a free pack-in with the console. As of now, no price has been disclosed for the game.

In addition to the Welcome Tour, the Nintendo Switch 2 will launch with a robust lineup of games including Mario Kart World, Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster, and Deltarune Chapters 1 through 4. With such a competitive launch lineup, the decision to charge for the Welcome Tour might stretch early adopters' budgets.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to hit the market on June 5, 2025, with a price of $449.99 USD, or $499.99 for a bundle that includes Mario Kart World.
