Nintendo Quietly Confirms Cost of Switch 2 Upgrades for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree — and They're Not Cheap

Nintendo has recently announced the upgrade costs for two popular Switch games transitioning to the Switch 2 Edition: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. These upgrades are notably more expensive than expected.

For context, upgrading from the original Switch version to the Switch 2 Edition for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom costs $9.99 each. However, NintendoLife reported that the upgrade for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree is more than double that price.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild includes improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" service in the Nintendo Switch Online app. If you already own Breath of the Wild on the original Switch, you can purchase an "upgrade pack" for $10 to enjoy these enhancements.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land features new story content in the "Star-Crossed World." Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree's Switch 2 Edition introduces "Jamboree TV," a new suite of content that leverages the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. These editions also boast upgraded resolutions up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functions.

While U.S. prices are not yet listed on the American Nintendo eShop, possibly due to ongoing trade uncertainties, the UK Nintendo eShop lists the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade at £16.99 / €19.99, significantly higher than the £7.99 / €9.99 for upgrading Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. The Super Mario Party Jamboree upgrade is similarly priced at £16.99 / €19.99, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99 for both.

The higher upgrade price could be attributed to the increased cost of the full Switch 2 Editions of both games, which are priced at $79.99 each, compared to $59.99 for their original Switch versions. Here are the U.S. prices for the full Switch 2 Edition games:
