Neil Druckmann Says 'Don't Bet on' There Being a The Last of Us Part 3

For those eagerly awaiting news of The Last of Us Part 3, renowned series creator Neil Druckmann has delivered a disheartening update. In a recent interview with Variety, primarily focused on the HBO series, Druckmann effectively dashed hopes of a third installment. When questioned about the possibility, he sighed, stating, "I was waiting for this question. I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of ‘Last of Us.’ This could be it.”

While Druckmann's statement is certainly discouraging, it doesn't entirely preclude a future Part 3. Naughty Dog is currently engrossed in the development of Intergalactic, a space-themed game announced at The Game Awards 2022, with no release date yet in sight. This leaves the studio's resources fully committed, making a Last of Us Part 3 project improbable in the near future. His statement could be strategic ambiguity, a refusal to commit, or a genuine indication that the story is concluded. Only time will tell.

However, for fans craving more in the Last of Us universe, the HBO series remains a compelling alternative. Season two premieres April 13th on Max, and while the total number of seasons remains unconfirmed, an HBO executive suggested four seasons might encompass the story of Part 2.
