"Minecraft Guide: Obtaining Armadillo Scutes"

Author:Kristen Update:Mar 24,2025

The Armadillo, a delightful addition to *Minecraft* introduced in the 1.20.5 "Armored Paws" update, can be found in various warm biomes. This passive mob, adorned with protective "Scutes," plays a crucial role in crafting the new Wolf Armor, enhancing the safety of your canine companions. Here's a detailed guide on how to obtain Armadillo Scutes in *Minecraft*.

How to Get Armadillo Scutes in Minecraft

Armadillos are exclusive to warm biomes and typically spawn in groups of two or three. They have a unique defensive mechanism where they roll into a ball if approached too quickly. To avoid triggering this, approach them slowly and carefully.

The biomes where you can find Armadillos include:

  • Badlands
  • Eroded Badlands
  • Savanna
  • Savanna Plateau
  • Windswept Savanna
  • Wooded Badlands

There are two primary methods to collect Armadillo Scutes:

1. Watch and Wait

Much like a Chicken dropping an Egg, an Armadillo will drop one Scute every 5-10 minutes. This passive method requires no items or effort, making it a laid-back option. However, if you're looking to protect multiple Wolves, this method can be slow and less engaging.

2. Brushing

The more popular method involves using a Brush, a tool typically used for investigating suspicious sand or gravel. To obtain Scutes, you'll need to craft a Brush using a Feather, a Copper Ingot, and a Stick, arranged vertically in the center column of the Crafting Table.

In the Java Edition, an unenchanted Brush can be used on an Armadillo four times before breaking, while in Bedrock Edition, it lasts for five uses. Brushes can be repaired by combining two damaged ones, and if they are enchanted, the enchantments can be preserved using an Anvil. Possible enchantments for a Brush include Unbreaking, Mending, and Curse of Vanishing.

To collect Scutes, approach the Armadillos slowly to prevent them from rolling up, then use the Brush to gently obtain one Scute per brushing. With multiple Brushes, you can amass a significant number of Scutes, ready for crafting into Wolf Armor.

Minecraft Armadillo and Wolf Armor

Once you've gathered the necessary six Scutes, head to a Crafting Table to create a suit of Wolf Armor for your loyal friend.

Whether you choose the passive waiting method or the more interactive brushing technique, these are the current ways to gather Armadillo Scutes and utilize them in *Minecraft*.
