MH Wilds Beta Test Extension Considered After Sudden PSN Outage

Monster Hunter Wilds is exploring a 24-hour extension for Open Beta Test 2 following a significant PlayStation Network outage. This article details the potential extension and the weekend's events.

24-Hour Playtime Interruption for PS5 Users

Due to the PlayStation Network's 24-hour service disruption (6 PM EST February 7th to approximately 8 PM EST February 8th), impacting all online console gaming, Monster Hunter Wilds is considering a one-day extension to compensate players for lost playtime during Open Beta Test 2. While the exact timing hasn't been announced, the extension will likely fall between the conclusion of Beta Test 2 Part 2 and February 27th, the day before the game's official release. Beta Test 2 Part 1 is complete, and Part 2 commences February 13th, 7 PM PT. Players can anticipate resuming their gameplay, potentially encountering the amusing low-poly character bug.

The Return of the Hilarious Low-Poly Bug

Capcom acknowledges the beta build's outdated nature and the presence of bugs, including the infamous low-poly character glitch. This glitch transforms characters, Palicos, and monsters into blocky, low-resolution versions. Instead of frustration, this has sparked amusement among fans, who've shared their experiences online. While developers are aware and appreciate the humorous reaction, they encourage players to experience the game's full visual fidelity upon its official release with appropriate hardware.

Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest installment in the acclaimed series, introduces an open-world setting—the Forbidden Lands. Players assume the role of a Hunter investigating this mysterious region and its apex predator, the White Wraith. This action-RPG launches on February 28th, 2025, for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

PlayStation Network's Significant Outage

PlayStation attributed the outage to an "operational issue," apologizing for the disruption. PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive a five-day service extension as compensation. However, the lack of communication during the outage drew criticism, evoking comparisons to the 2011 PSN breach, which resulted in a three-and-a-half-week service interruption and the compromise of approximately 77 million accounts. In contrast to the 2011 event, communication during the recent outage was deemed insufficient by many users.
