If you ever doubted that *Rune Slayer* is an MMORPG, let the presence of fishing put those doubts to rest. While we're joking about the fishing trope in MMORPGs, understanding how to fish in *Rune Slayer* is no laughing matter. We've navigated the learning curve and are here to guide you through the process. Spoiler alert: it's not as straightforward as in *Fisch*.
Before you start reeling in the big ones, make sure to **accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman**. You'll find this white-haired NPC at one of the piers where the Baracuda swims. Simon's task for you is to catch 5 "fish," and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box. The quotation marks around "fish" hint at a twist, which we'll get to shortly.
To embark on your fishing adventure, you'll need a **fishing rod and some bait/tackle**. Conveniently, Simon the Fisherman is your go-to vendor for these essentials.
**Purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and at least 5 Worms from Simon**. We recommend buying 10 Worms to be on the safe side. Note that you **cannot equip the bait**; instead, the Worms simply need to be in your inventory. Each time you catch a fish, one Worm will be automatically used up.
Here's a crucial detail: **you won't be able to catch any fish without at least 5 bait items in your inventory**. We tried with just one Worm and caught nothing. It was only after stocking up to 5 Worms that we started seeing results. Keep your Worms in your hotbar to easily monitor your supply.
To begin fishing, **select your Wood Fishing Rod** and place it in your hotbar or access it from your inventory. Your character will then hold it ready to cast.
**Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water**, such as the pier near Simon the Fisherman. Keep an eye on the bobber, and when you see **one or two ripples**, **click M1 again to reel in your catch**.
Be aware that **this method isn't foolproof**. Often, you won't catch anything, and sometimes you'll pull up junk. The good news is, **Simon counts junk as a catch**, which explains the earlier use of "fish" in quotation marks.
Your goal is to **catch 5 "fish" or junk items**. We managed to catch only two actual fish, with the rest being Old Cups.
Once you've met the quota, **return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest**. He'll reward you with a Tackle Box, which you can use to store your remaining Worms, freeing up valuable inventory space.
That's the rundown on fishing in *Rune Slayer*. Enjoy your time on the water, and if you need more guidance, don't forget to check out our **The Ultimate Beginner's Guide to *Rune Slayer***.
