Marvel Star Simu Liu Says He's Working to Get Sleeping Dogs a Film Adaptation

Simu Liu, the Marvel star, is reviving hopes for a Sleeping Dogs film adaptation. Initially cancelled earlier this month, the project now has a potential lifeline thanks to Liu's involvement.

According to Newsweek, Liu responded to a fan on X/Twitter, stating he's actively working to bring the game to the big screen. His tweet confirmed he is "Working with the rights holders to bring Sleeping Dogs to the big screen."

The adaptation was first announced in 2017, with Donnie Yen slated to star. However, the project vanished a year later, and Yen recently confirmed its cancellation, citing the unpredictable nature of Hollywood. He stated, "I spent a lot of time and did a lot of work with these producers, and I even invested some of my own money into obtaining the drafts and some of the rights... I waited for years... And I really wanted to do it. And unfortunately... I don't know. You know how Hollywood goes, right?"

Liu's intervention reignites the possibility of a Sleeping Dogs movie. Whether he secures the rights or finds another path to production remains uncertain.

The original Sleeping Dogs video game, released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, follows Detective Wei Shen as he infiltrates a Hong Kong Triad. Critically acclaimed (earning an 8/10 from IGN), the game, despite its success, never received sequels.
