Marvel Snap Returns, Second Dinner Seeks New Publisher

Author:Kristen Update:May 02,2025

After a tumultuous few days, Second Dinner's popular card battler, Marvel Snap, is once again accessible in the United States. The game faced a brief hiatus due to the TikTok ban affecting its publisher, ByteDance. However, it seems that Second Dinner was blindsided by the sudden decision to halt the service, which was accompanied by a stark "banned" warning message for players.

As Second Dinner continues to manage the fallout and respond to player grievances, the developer has announced its intention to seek a new publisher. This decision marks a significant setback for Nuverse, ByteDance's subsidiary, which has been at the helm of publishing this highly acclaimed title since its debut in 2022, featuring beloved Marvel comic heroes in fast-paced card battles.

ytDinner timeBy now, you may have read my opinion piece on this matter (and if not, where have you been?). I highlighted that ByteDance's decision to abruptly remove both TikTok and several of its gaming titles, without adequate forewarning for the latter, was likely to have repercussions.

Second Dinner's frustration is palpable, as evident from the flood of complaints on their social media platforms from players who missed out on log-in rewards and event gameplay. The move to actively seek a new publisher underscores the underlying tension and dissatisfaction with the recent events.

It may take months or even years to secure a new publisher, but the hope is that there won't be a repeat of this recent incident.
