Marvel Snap Returns: Developers Seek New Publisher

TikTok's unexpected halt of operations in the US on January 19 had a ripple effect, impacting Marvel Snap, a popular card game developed by Second Dinner Studios and released by Nuverse, a ByteDance subsidiary. The game was offline for 24 hours due to this blockage but is now back online, though with ongoing efforts to restore full functionality; in-game purchases remain unavailable.

In response to this incident, the developers are considering a change in publishers and plan to shift some services to internal resources to prevent future disruptions. This decision stems from the political risks surrounding TikTok, which was only granted a 90-day extension to sell 50% of its business to a local owner. If this deal fails, TikTok and related projects like Marvel Snap could face reblocking.

Second Dinner Studios has promised to provide further updates on the situation. Despite the outage, PC players could still access the game via Steam. The developers expressed their surprise at the incident and are diligently working to fully restore the game. An official statement on Platform X reassured players:

"Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress."

A significant issue was the lack of warning to players, many of whom continued to spend money on in-game purchases unaware of the potential lockout.
