"Marvel Snap Blocked in US Over TikTok Restrictions"

Second Dinner, the California-based studio behind the game, developed Marvel Snap, but it's published by Nuverse, a subsidiary of ByteDance. Due to this connection, Marvel Snap faced a ban alongside other ByteDance apps such as CapCut and Lemon8. On January 18, 2025, the availability of Marvel Snap on iOS and Android platforms was abruptly discontinued.

Many players have been vocal about facing authorization issues, yet PC gamers can still access the game through Steam. The developers at Second Dinner were taken aback by this sudden turn of events and have assured fans that they are working diligently to bring the game back online. In an official statement on Platform X, they declared:

“Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress”.

One of the most frustrating elements of this situation was the lack of prior warning to players. Many continued to make in-game purchases unaware of the impending lockout.

While Marvel Snap was affected, not all ByteDance apps faced the same fate. For instance, games like Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain playable.

In other news, we recently covered the addition of an exciting new card to Marvel Snap's roster: Moonstone. As part of the ongoing archetype, which is crucial to the game's meta, Moonstone is a much-needed addition. As a 4-cost, 6-power ongoing card, Moonstone can replicate the ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-cost cards in her lane.

With the abundance of low-cost Ongoing cards currently available in Marvel Snap, Moonstone’s ability to copy these effects is significant. While most low-cost ongoing cards like Ant-Man and U.S. Agent simply boost power, Moonstone can rapidly accumulate high value by adopting those effects at no additional cost.
