Hasbro has unveiled plans to expand the iconic universe of Magic: The Gathering to screens worldwide. In collaboration with Legendary Entertainment, they aim to craft a comprehensive shared universe encompassing both movies and TV shows, with a feature film taking the lead.

“We pride ourselves on being thoughtful caretakers of singular, beloved IP, and no property better fits that description than Magic: The Gathering,” stated Legendary’s chairman of worldwide production. Legendary Entertainment, known for its work on films like Dune, the MonsterVerse including Godzilla vs. Kong, and Detective Pikachu, is spearheading this ambitious project.

While details remain somewhat murky, it appears the movie and TV adaptations under Legendary's banner will be distinct from the previously announced Magic: The Gathering animated series set for Netflix. However, there's a possibility that plans may have evolved, integrating the animated series into this broader shared universe.

Magic: The Gathering originated as a trading card game in 1993, created by Wizards of the Coast. The game has since surged in popularity, becoming one of the world's most celebrated trading card games. Wizards of the Coast was acquired by Hasbro in 1999, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the franchise.

Hasbro is no newcomer to the realm of cinematic adaptations, with a portfolio that includes successful movies based on G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Dungeons and Dragons. The company is actively developing several projects, including new G.I. Joe films, a Power Rangers movie, and a Beyblade film, showcasing their commitment to bringing their iconic brands to life on the big screen.
