The launch date for the Lunar Remastered Collection is now official: April 18. Game Arts is developing this much-anticipated remaster, with GungHo Online Entertainment handling publishing duties. This duology brings the first two Lunar games to contemporary platforms, boasting updated visuals, re-recorded music, and numerous gameplay refinements. It will be available on all major console platforms and PC via Steam.

The Lunar Remastered Collection was revealed during a 2024 Sony State of Play, delighting longtime JRPG enthusiasts. The series began in 1992 with Lunar: The Silver Star for the Sega CD, followed by 1994's sequel, Lunar: Eternal Blue. Both titles later received expanded remakes for the PlayStation and Sega Saturn called Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete. Even today, Lunar is hailed as one of the Sega Saturn's finest RPGs, making this remastered collection a dream come true for its dedicated fanbase.

GungHo Online Entertainment recently confirmed that the Lunar Remastered Collection launches on April 18 for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, with support for current-generation consoles. Physical editions will see a limited release in North America and Europe. The return of Lunar brings expected modern enhancements such as widescreen support, refined pixel art, and HD cutscenes. For purists, a classic mode is included, replicating the graphical style of the original PlayStation era.

Additional features in the Lunar Remastered Collection include full Japanese and English voice acting, plus newly implemented French and German subtitles. Gameplay improvements introduce a combat speed-up option and strategies for setting party members to auto-battle. Such quality-of-life features, aimed at streamlining or accelerating combat, have become commonplace in modern remasters of classic JRPGs. This trend is seen in titles like the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and the upcoming Suikoden I & II HD Remaster.

The Lunar series joins a growing wave of classic JRPGs finding new audiences on modern hardware. While the commercial success of this remastered collection remains to be seen, Game Arts and GungHo Online Entertainment's previous collaboration on the Grandia HD Collection—and their continued efforts with other series—suggests their strategy has proven effective.
