Konami Unveils Mobile Game: Suikoden STAR LEAP

Exciting news for fans of the legendary RPG series: Suikoden is making a comeback with Suikoden STAR LEAP, a new mobile RPG developed by Konami in collaboration with MYTHRIL. This free-to-play game is slated for release on Android and iOS platforms later this year, although an exact date hasn’t been announced yet.

For those unfamiliar, Suikoden has been a beloved franchise since its debut in 1995. Created by Yoshitaka Murayama and developed by Konami, the series draws inspiration from the classic Chinese novel Water Margin and is known in Japan as Suikoden. The series is renowned for its rich narrative, featuring political intrigue, the mystical True Runes, and the legendary 108 Stars of Destiny. Over the years, the series has seen 11 entries, including various spin-offs, with the last release in 2012. Now, instead of a direct sequel or a full revival, fans are getting a mobile game with Suikoden STAR LEAP.

What’s in Store?

Suikoden STAR LEAP brings an entirely new cast of characters while maintaining the series' tradition of assembling 108 heroes. The game embraces pixel art to preserve the classic Suikoden aesthetic, which you can preview in the teaser trailer below.

The storyline centers around the Rune of Change, one of the 27 True Runes that have shaped the world. The protagonist, Hou, the son of a village chief, experiences a turning point after his first successful hunt when disaster strikes and his village is attacked. Driven by a desire to restore peace, Hou embarks on a journey with Hisui, his servant with a mysterious emotional suppression; Shirin, his childhood friend with a strong sense of justice; and Shapur, a former general turned butler.

While the announcement of Suikoden STAR LEAP has stirred excitement, it has also sparked mixed feelings within the community. Many fans have been eagerly awaiting a proper continuation of the series, and the introduction of a gacha game format has left some unsure about its reception.

We'll have a clearer picture once Suikoden STAR LEAP is released. In the meantime, keep an eye on the official website for the latest updates.
