John Lithgow Reveals He'll Play Dumbledore in HBO's Harry Potter TV Series

HBO's highly anticipated Harry Potter TV series has reportedly secured its Dumbledore: the acclaimed John Lithgow. While neither HBO nor Warner Bros. have officially confirmed the casting, Lithgow himself revealed in a ScreenRant interview that he's accepted the role.

Lithgow described the decision as challenging, stating that the part will significantly define the "last chapter" of his career. He humorously noted he'll be approximately 87 years old by the wrap party. This marks the first confirmed casting for the series, which aims to reimagine J.K. Rowling's beloved books with a completely new ensemble.

Rowling will serve as an executive producer alongside Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts. The lack of a full cast suggests the series is still in the early stages of development.

Lithgow, a veteran actor known for roles like Dick Solomon in "3rd Rock from the Sun" and Winston Churchill in "The Crown" (for which he won an Emmy), brings considerable experience and prestige to the project. However, the absence of official confirmation from HBO and Warner Bros. leaves the timeline for production uncertain.
