Jason Momoa Hints at Lobo's Role in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

Jason Momoa is set to re-enter the DC Universe in 2026’s *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow*, this time portraying the intergalactic antihero Lobo. The actor, best known for playing Aquaman in the previous DC Extended Universe (DCEU), has shared a few intriguing hints about what fans can expect from his take on the infamous alien mercenary.

Lobo, an ultra-violent and virtually indestructible bounty hunter, hails from the planet Czarnia—making him, like Superman, the last of his kind after its destruction. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983 and quickly became a fan-favorite due to his over-the-top personality and brutal sense of humor.

Momoa expressed his long-standing admiration for the character, calling Lobo his all-time favorite comic book figure. He also hinted at a strong personal resemblance between himself and the character, both in appearance and attitude.

From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa makes a bold shift across the DC multiverse.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Momoa confirmed that while his version of Lobo will be faithful to the comics—complete with a visually accurate look—he won’t be overshadowing the main story.

“Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play,” Momoa stated. “That's the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but we look pretty dead-on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool.”

When asked how much screen time Lobo would get, Momoa clarified, “It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit.” This suggests that while Lobo’s introduction will be impactful, he remains a supporting presence in Supergirl’s journey.

PlayIn January, DC co-chief James Gunn unveiled the first official photo of Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl via Bluesky, marking the official start of production on *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow*. The film stars House of the Dragon actress Milly Alcock in the lead role.

Details remain scarce, though it’s confirmed that the movie draws heavy inspiration from the acclaimed graphic novel Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira. The story follows Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young alien seeking justice for her father’s murder at the hands of the ruthless Krem of the Yellow Hills. She turns to Supergirl for help, setting off a powerful revenge-driven adventure across space.

The film’s villain, Krem, will be portrayed by Matthias Schoenaerts, while young Ruthye is played by Eve Ridley. The cast also features David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura, and of course, Jason Momoa as Lobo.

Set for release in June 2026, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is the second installment in James Gunn’s newly rebooted DC Universe (DCU), following the summer 2025 debut of Superman. Later in September 2026, fans can look forward to the Clayface movie, further expanding the new cinematic vision.
