Insider Hints at Mystery Xbox Game Getting Announced on January 23

Xbox's upcoming Developer Direct will unveil four games, with the fourth remaining a mystery. Hints suggest it's a new installment in a renowned Japanese franchise with a long history.

Xbox's annual Developer Direct, returning January 23rd, 2025, will showcase Doom: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The identity of the fourth game, however, is shrouded in secrecy, sparking much speculation among fans. Initial guesses included titles like Fable, The Outer Worlds 2, and Gears of War: E-Day.

Industry insider Jez Corden offered a clue, describing the mystery game as a "new entry in a legendary Japanese IP with decades of history," suggesting it's not from an Xbox first-party studio.

Several possibilities have emerged. While a new Final Fantasy title from Square Enix seems unlikely given their PlayStation partnerships and recent releases, other contenders include Capcom's Resident Evil (with Resident Evil 9 rumored to be in development), Sega's Persona (especially considering the rumored 2025 release of Persona 6 and Xbox's prior collaboration with Sega), and a potential Ninja Gaiden revival from Team Ninja, given the franchise's strong association with Xbox during the original Xbox era.

However, these are just speculations. The official reveal of the mystery game, along with further details on the other three confirmed titles, will occur during Xbox's Developer Direct on Thursday, January 23rd, 2025.
