The cards revealed today are part of the "Through the Ages" bonus sheet within the larger main set. These are reprints of existing cards, reimagined with concept art and characters from various Final Fantasy games. While they don't introduce new or mechanically unique cards like those in the recently showcased or previously revealed Commander decks, they boast artwork spanning from the very first game in the series.

Unlike cards in the main set, Through the Ages cards are not legal in Magic's Standard format (unless the existing card was already legal), functioning essentially as alternate art versions. However, they can be found in both the premium Collector Boosters and one in every three regular Play Boosters, which are used for Limited events like Draft and Sealed.

If you're planning to engage deeply with this set, whether at your local game store or digitally on platforms like Magic: The Gathering Arena, you'll likely encounter these cards frequently. Five of the six cards are Rares, making them less common, but Thrum of the Vestige, an Uncommon reskin of the iconic Lightning Bolt, is expected to have a significant impact on the set.

The Warrior of Light reprint of Jodah, the Unifier, is sure to be a fan favorite. Jodah is a powerful and popular Commander, and the art here features Amano's iconic work from the original Final Fantasy Japanese boxart. Similarly, Amano's artwork for Final Fantasy 4's Cecil Harvey has been reimagined for Tymna the Weaver, one of Magic's strongest partner commanders, which has been reprinted only once before.

These cards will be available physically as part of the larger Final Fantasy set on June 13, with digital versions launching on MTG Arena and MTGO on June 10. Even if you're a Final Fantasy enthusiast new to Magic, there's plenty to be excited about, especially since Tetsuya Nomura, director of the FF7 Remake series, hinted at a unique design choice for Sephiroth on one of the cards for an intriguing reason.
