Once Human sits pretty at 230,000 peak player count, but it\'s still a long way out from mobile

NetEase's post-apocalyptic survival game, Once Human, has achieved a remarkable 230,000 peak concurrent players on Steam since its PC launch. This impressive feat also secured it the seventh spot on the top sellers list and fifth place among the most played games. Further updates are planned, including a PvP mode pitting the Mayflies and Rosetta factions against each other, and a new PvE area in a challenging northern mountain region, introducing fresh enemies and challenges. Set in a world ravaged by a catastrophic event leading to supernatural occurrences, Once Human is a highly anticipated title from NetEase.

Interestingly, despite its apparent readiness, NetEase has delayed the mobile release of Once Human, now slated for September. However, its strong PC performance, including its top seller and most played rankings, remains encouraging.

A Cause for Concern? The 230,000 figure represents a peak player count. The average player count may be significantly lower, and a post-launch drop from this peak could be a warning sign for NetEase, especially considering the game initially boasted over 300,000 Steam wishlists.

While NetEase is a mobile gaming giant, its strategic shift towards the PC market is a significant undertaking. Although Once Human boasts impressive graphics and gameplay, a rapid shift in its primary audience might prove challenging.
