NCSoft's Cancellation of Horizon MMORPG "Project H"

The cancellation of "Project H" is reportedly linked to key developers leaving NCSoft, with remaining team members reassigned to other projects. The removal of "H" (and another project, codenamed "J") from NCSoft's organizational chart further solidifies the cancellation. The future of "Project H" remains uncertain, with the possibility of another developer picking up the project's assets.

Guerrilla Games' Ongoing Horizon Online Project

Separately, Guerrilla Games continues development on its own Horizon online project, announced on December 16, 2022. This project, distinct from NCSoft's cancelled MMORPG, features a new storyline and characters. Job postings, including one for a Senior Combat Designer (November 2023) and a Senior Platform Engineer (January 2025), indicate a focus on large-scale multiplayer combat and a projected player base of over one million. The scale and ambition of this project suggest a significant investment from Guerrilla Games and Sony.

Sony and NCSoft's Strategic Partnership

The strategic partnership between Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) and NCSoft, announced November 28, 2023, aims to expand PlayStation's reach into new markets. While the cancellation of the Horizon MMORPG is unfortunate, this partnership opens possibilities for future collaborations, potentially bringing other Sony titles to mobile platforms.
