Harry Potter: Magic Awakened EOS Announced, Guess The Spells Didn’t Work After All!

NetEase's collectible card game, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, is shutting down in select regions. The end-of-service (EOS) date for the Americas, Europe, and Oceania is October 29th, 2024. Players in Asia and certain MENA regions can continue playing.

Initially launched in China in September 2021 and globally on June 27th, 2023, the game enjoyed a strong start but ultimately failed to maintain momentum. While its Clash Royale-inspired gameplay and wizarding world setting initially resonated with players, the game's performance eventually faltered.

Reddit discussions highlight player frustration with changes to the reward system. The shift towards favoring spending players over skilled players, along with numerous nerfs and slower progression for free-to-play users, contributed significantly to the game's decline.

The game has already been removed from app stores in affected regions as of August 26th, 2024. Those in unaffected regions can still experience the Hogwarts atmosphere, dorm life, classes, and student duels.
