Halo Infinite Studio Shutters Unannounced Game

Jar of Sparks, the NetEase-backed studio founded by former Halo Infinite design head Jerry Hook, has paused development on its debut project. The studio is actively seeking a new publishing partner to realize its vision for a "next-generation narrative-driven action game."

Hook's LinkedIn post confirmed the development halt and the search for a new partner capable of supporting the studio's creative ambitions. While he expressed pride in the team's progress and innovative approach, he also indicated that team members will be exploring new opportunities. A subsequent post clarified that the studio will assist its employees in finding new roles in the coming weeks.

NetEase, a prominent global video game publisher currently supporting live-service titles like Once Human and Marvel Rivals, remains a significant player in the industry. The company's recent success with Marvel Rivals, including the launch of its Season 1 Battle Pass and upcoming Fantastic Four content, highlights its commitment to live-service models.

This isn't the first instance of a veteran game developer establishing a new studio under NetEase. Former Resident Evil producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi similarly founded GPTRACK50 Studios in 2022.

The news comes amidst a period of transition for the Halo franchise, marked by challenges with Halo Infinite's post-launch support and mixed reception of the Paramount+ series. However, 343 Industries' rebranding to Halo Studios and the shift to Unreal Engine for future titles suggest a potential resurgence for the franchise.

While Jar of Sparks' future remains uncertain, the search for a new publisher represents a crucial step in the studio's evolution. The team's commitment to innovation and the industry's interest in their project suggest a possible successful outcome despite the current setback.
