GTA 6 PC Release Hinted To Come At A Later Date

The anticipation for Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) continues to build, with fans eagerly awaiting news on its release across different platforms. While there has been no official confirmation yet about a PC version of GTA 6, recent statements from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick hint at a possible future release on PC.

GTA 6 on PC Unconfirmed, But Take-Two Shows Interest

In a recent interview with IGN on February 10, 2025, Zelnick discussed the platform strategy for their upcoming titles. He mentioned that while Civilization 7 will launch simultaneously on console and PC, Rockstar Games typically follows a staggered release approach. He noted, "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms."

This approach is evident in the release patterns of previous titles like GTA 5, which initially launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and finally on PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 was released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, with a PC release following in November 2019.

Although GTA 6's PC release remains unconfirmed, Zelnick's comments suggest that Take-Two is considering a PC version, aligning with the trend of major titles eventually making their way to the platform. Fans had hoped for a simultaneous launch on PC, but it appears they might need to wait a bit longer.

Take-Two Confident About GTA 6 Sales Across All Platforms

Zelnick highlighted the growing significance of the PC market, noting that PC versions of multiplatform games can account for up to 40% of total sales. He said, "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue."

Despite concerns over declining console sales for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Zelnick expressed confidence in GTA 6's ability to drive sales across all platforms. He believes that major titles like GTA 6 can significantly boost console sales, stating, "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles."

He further added, "And I think that will happen this year. I don't think tariffs are going to be our friend, but I think there will be a meaningful uptick in console sales in calendar 25 because of the release schedule, not just coming from us, but coming from others. So I'm not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC."

GTA 6 is slated for release in Fall 2025, but no specific date has been announced yet. Stay updated with the latest news on our Grand Theft Auto 6 page.

During the Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick also touched on the potential of releasing their games on the upcoming Switch 2 console. He emphasized their long-standing relationship with Nintendo and their willingness to support the platform when it aligns with their release strategy.

He noted that the Switch's audience has evolved, stating, "We've had obviously a long-standing relationship with Nintendo, and we've supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release." With the Switch now capable of reaching a broader audience, Zelnick said, "the Switch device can support any audience."

He confirmed that Civilization 7 will be available on the Switch, and while no specific plans were announced for other titles, he added, "So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch."
