F-Zero Climax, a Japan-Exclusive GBA Racing Game, Added to Switch Online + Expansion Pack

Nintendo has announced the addition of two classic GBA racing games from the F-Zero series to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack!

F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend Arrive on Switch Online

Get ready to experience the thrill of high-speed futuristic racing! Classic Game Boy Advance titles, F-Zero: GP Legend and the previously Japan-exclusive F-Zero Climax, are joining the Switch Online + Expansion Pack lineup on October 11th.

The F-Zero series, a cornerstone of Nintendo's legacy, debuted in Japan over 30 years ago (1990) and quickly became a critical darling. Its influence on the racing genre is undeniable, inspiring titles like SEGA's Daytona USA. F-Zero consistently pushed the boundaries of console technology, earning its reputation as one of the fastest racing games on retro consoles like the SNES.

Like Nintendo's Mario Kart franchise, F-Zero features intense racing action where players navigate challenging tracks, overcome obstacles, and battle opponents in their unique "F-Zero machines." The series' iconic protagonist, Captain Falcon, even made his mark as a beloved fighter in Super Smash Bros.

F-Zero: GP Legend first launched in Japan in 2003, followed by a worldwide release in 2004. F-Zero Climax, released in Japan in 2004, remained a region-exclusive title until now—marking a 19-year wait before the release of the Switch's F-Zero 99 last year. In an interview, F-Zero game designer Takaya Imamura cited Mario Kart's popularity as a contributing factor to the series' extended hiatus.

With the October 2024 Game Update for the Switch Online + Expansion Pack, subscribers will finally have access to both F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend. Prepare to compete in various race modes, including Grand Prix, story modes, and time-based challenges.
