FCC Filing Hints at Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Upgrade

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 19,2025

With just hours remaining until the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, excitement is building among fans eager to learn more about Nintendo's next console. A recent filing with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has sparked speculation about the potential controller lineup for the Switch 2, particularly with regards to a possible Switch 2 Pro Controller.

On March 31, an FCC filing under the product code "BEE-008" emerged, as noted by Famiboards and reported by Nintendo-focused sites like GoNintendo. This filing appears to be related to a new game controller, leading some to speculate that it might be the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller. While Nintendo has not officially confirmed the existence of a Switch 2 Pro Controller, the filing's mention of Bluetooth and NFC capabilities suggests it could be a high-end controller, akin to a Pro model.

One of the most intriguing aspects of this filing, if it indeed pertains to the Switch 2 Pro Controller, is the potential inclusion of a headphone jack. Unlike the original Switch Pro Controller, which lacked this feature, the addition of a headphone jack would align the Switch 2 Pro Controller with modern standards set by controllers like the DualSense and Xbox Series controllers. This would represent a significant quality-of-life improvement for gamers, enhancing their gaming experience.

It's worth noting that past Nintendo filings have occasionally provided early insights into the company's plans, lending some credibility to the speculation surrounding this controller. However, without official confirmation, these remain theories until Nintendo unveils its full plans for the Switch 2.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is scheduled to air tomorrow at 6am PT / 9am ET across Nintendo's channels. The event promises a "closer look" at the Switch 2 following its initial reveal earlier this year, with hopes of revealing a potential release date. Nintendo has confirmed that the Direct will last for an hour, and has also scheduled two Nintendo Treehouse: Live | Nintendo Switch 2 presentations featuring hands-on gameplay for April 3 and April 4, starting at 7am PT each day.
