Fallout 76 Season 20 plunges players into the irradiated heart of Appalachia, offering the thrilling opportunity to become a Ghoul. This update, launched March 18th, introduces a wealth of ghoul-themed features, mechanics, and cosmetics, transforming your C.A.M.P. and your gameplay.
Unleash Your Inner Ghoul
Fallout 76's latest update lets you embrace your inner ghoul through "Ghoulification," unlocked via the "Leap of Faith" questline. This quest takes you to a new area of the Savage Divide, where you'll meet characters crucial to your transformation. Becoming a ghoul grants access to exclusive abilities – Glow and Feral – and 30 unique perks ("Gherks").
The Feral ability replaces hunger and thirst, offering stat boosts based on your Feral meter. However, depleting it to 0% unleashes a dramatic shift: +150% melee damage, but at the cost of significant reductions to Endurance, Charisma, health, AP, and accuracy.
The Glow ability lets you consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and—as the name suggests—making you glow. It also boosts maximum health, heals damage, and contributes to Gherk progression.
With 28 perks and 2 new legendary perks available, Ghouls have plenty of customization options. Note that perks related to hunger, thirst, and chem resistance are unavailable, as these needs are no longer relevant.
A Ghoul's Life in Appalachia
Embracing Ghoulification makes navigating the irradiated wasteland significantly easier thanks to your new abilities and perks. However, be warned: factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may react negatively, leading to hostility and potential questline restrictions.
Fortunately, a new NPC, Jaye, provides disguises allowing you to bypass these limitations. If the ghoul life isn't for you, you can revert to human form via the Character Screen. However, this is a one-way trip; the "Leap of Faith" quest can't be repeated. Ghoul re-transformation is available for 1000 Atoms.
Level 50 Character Boost & Season 20 Patch Notes
Season 20 includes a Level 50 Character Boost (1500 Atoms), providing a significant head start for new and veteran players. This boost offers perks and advantages, allowing immediate access to Daily Ops, Public Events, and story content.
The patch also includes bug fixes, balance adjustments, accessibility improvements, combat balancing, weapon damage changes, and more. Bethesda also highlights their upcoming "The Big Bloom" update (April 29th).
Since its rocky launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has seen consistent updates, earning a "Mostly Positive" rating (76%) on Steam. The game is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
