Kevin Edwards, a former Genepool Software developer, unveiled exclusive images from a canceled Iron Man project slated for a 2003 release. The game, tentatively titled "The Invincible Iron Man," aimed to evoke the character's original comic book persona. Edwards' involvement followed the studio's successful release of X-Men 2: Wolverine’s Revenge.

Edwards' Twitter (X) post, showcasing the game's title card, Genepool Software's logo, and gameplay screenshots, was quickly followed by original Xbox gameplay footage. The footage included the game's startup screen and a brief tutorial segment set in a desert landscape.

Despite positive fan response to Edwards' reveal, Activision ultimately canceled "The Invincible Iron Man" shortly after development began. Genepool Software subsequently closed, leaving Edwards and his team unemployed.

While Activision remained silent on the cancellation's cause, Edwards offered several possibilities in response to online inquiries: the film's delay, dissatisfaction with the game's quality, or the possibility of another developer taking over the project.

Online discussions also highlighted Tony Stark's unique design, markedly different from the MCU's portrayal. Pre-dating Robert Downey Jr.'s iconic interpretation by almost five years, the suit design closely resembled the "Ultimate Marvel" comic book version from the early 2000s. Edwards confirmed the design was a creative decision by the game's artist. He also teased further gameplay footage, though it remains unreleased at the time of writing.
