Elden Ring Nightreign: Raider Class First Impressions - IGN

Author:Kristen Update:May 13,2025

If you're a fan of Elden Ring and enjoy the thrill of wielding massive weapons to dominate foes with sheer strength, you'll find a kindred spirit in the Raider class of Nightreign. Check out the video below to see the Raider in action.

While the Guardian, another robust class in Nightreign, focuses on defense with a shield and abilities that protect the entire team, the Raider is crafted for those who relish in offensive dominance.

The Raider's most crucial ability is Retaliate, which might seem underwhelming at first glance—just two stomps that deliver moderate physical and poise damage. However, the true power of Retaliate lies in the Raider's passive ability, which prevents knockback during its execution. This allows the Raider to absorb hits without flinching, effectively turning Retaliate into a damage-soaking technique. Moreover, the second stomp can be replaced with a devastating punch that staggers even the mightiest of enemies if it absorbs a significant blow.

The Raider's ultimate, Totem Stela, is another game-changer. By slamming the ground, the Raider summons a large totem that erupts from the earth, dealing substantial damage to surrounding enemies. This ultimate not only inflicts heavy damage but also provides a climbable structure, offering a strategic vantage point or a safe haven for you and your teammates. Additionally, it grants a damage buff to everyone nearby, making it a critical ability to coordinate with your team for maximum impact.

Of all the classes in Nightreign, the Raider has been the most enjoyable for me. Starting with the Raider's Greataxe, which inflicts fire damage and comes equipped with the "Endure" skill to help you withstand enemy attacks, the Raider is perfectly suited for those who prefer large, strength-scaling weapons. As you progress, upgrading to even more powerful weapons will be essential to keep up with the game's challenges.

The Raider excels in one-on-one combat, which aligns well with its Remembrances—special challenges that involve gladiatorial-style boss fights. This unique feature adds a thrilling twist to the gameplay, making the Raider an exciting choice for players who love direct confrontations.

That's all for our hands-on impressions of Nightreign's classes. Stay tuned throughout the month for in-depth looks at the game's mechanics, developer interviews, and more as IGN First continues on.
