Led by celebrated filmmaker Alex Garland, known for Ex Machina and Civil War, the Elden Ring movie aims to capture the game’s sprawling world and thrilling action. The production team includes Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich from DNA Films, alongside George R. R. Martin, creator of A Song of Ice and Fire, and Vince Gerardis, co-executive producer of Game of Thrones. It remains unclear whether FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game’s director, will contribute to the film.

Details about the plot and cast are still under wraps, keeping fans eagerly awaiting further updates.

Elden Ring Thrives in 2025

Elden Ring Live-Action Confirmed

While the Elden Ring film is in early development, the franchise continues to dominate the gaming world. Since its 2022 debut, Elden Ring has sold over 30 million copies worldwide by April 2025, as shared on the official Elden Ring X account, celebrating the Tarnished who explored the Lands Between. The game has earned over 324 Game of the Year awards, making it one of the most celebrated titles in gaming history. Its 2024 expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, garnered similar acclaim.

FromSoftware is expanding the franchise with two new releases in 2025. Elden Ring Nightreign, a co-op action spinoff set in the realm of Limveld, casts players as Nightfarers battling the Nightlord. Featuring reimagined elements for multiplayer, it launches on May 30 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Additionally, the Elden Ring Tarnished Edition for the Nintendo Switch 2 will release this year, bundling the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, four new armor sets, and customization options for Torrent the Spectral Steed. Though not a launch title for the console, it promises to bring the full Elden Ring experience to Switch fans.
