In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, there isn't a direct sprint button; your character automatically transitions into a sprint after a few steps of running. While sprinting helps you move quickly, traversing vast battlefields to reach and rescue fellow officers can be challenging and time-consuming.

This is where your trusty horse comes into play. You can summon your horse at any time while navigating the overworld or during intense battles. Not only can you ride your horse for swift travel, but you can also engage in combat from horseback, perfect for executing rapid hit-and-run tactics. Let's explore how to acquire your first horse, enhance its abilities, and switch between different horses.

How To Unlock The First Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

You can obtain your first horse for free in Chapter 1 by interacting with a merchant who appears in the overworld. After completing the "Test Of Zheng Fei" battle, the merchant becomes available as you journey towards the Battle Of Guangzong. You'll find him northeast of Wan Castle, just before reaching the camp, standing beside his horse. Engage in conversation with the merchant, and he will generously gift you the horse, which will be automatically equipped.

Summon your horse and mount it instantly by pressing down on the left joystick if you're using a console, or by pressing the 'V' key on your keyboard.

How To Level Up Your Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Your horse gains experience points (XP) based on the missions you complete while it's equipped, regardless of whether you actively use it. Completing main story battles and missions (marked by a red diamond with a soldier icon) will earn your horse XP, though skirmishes do not contribute to this. The amount of XP earned depends on the battle's duration, how much you ride your horse, and how often you charge into enemies with it. As your horse levels up, it unlocks unique buffs at various milestones, which differ for each horse.

How To Switch Horses In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Your first horse is automatically equipped, but you can acquire and switch to other horses as well. To manage your horses, navigate to the Battle Preparation menu, where you'll find the option to equip or unequip horses at the bottom of the left sidebar. Each horse boasts unique perks, with some being faster or superior in other ways, so consider switching when you acquire a new one. To obtain additional horses, you must increase a region's peace level to its maximum, after which a new horse will be available as a reward at a nearby waypoint.
