Dragon Quest XII: Development Update and Continued Assurance

Series creator Yuji Horii recently offered a reassuring update on the development of Dragon Quest XII during a livestream with his radio show group, KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku. According to Automaton's report, Horii confirmed that the Square Enix team is diligently working on the game.

This marks the first official update since May 2024, following the announcement of the passing of key figures Akira Toriyama (character designer) and Koichi Sugiyama (composer). The departure of lead producer Yu Miyake to head Square Enix's mobile game division had also previously been announced.

Recent restructuring at Square Enix and a lack of updates had fueled fan concerns about the project's status. However, Horii's statement effectively confirms that Dragon Quest XII remains in active development, albeit with a "little by little" release of information approach.

The only visual currently available for Dragon Quest XII is this logo, unveiled in 2021.

Announced during the series' 35th anniversary, Dragon Quest XII will be the first mainline entry since 2017's Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. The recent success of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, surpassing 2 million copies sold, further underscores Square Enix's commitment to the franchise.
