Divinity Original Sin 2: Where To Find Blackroot

Quick Links

In Divinity: Original Sin 2, the Blackroot herb is surprisingly crucial, especially for the Miester's Ritual in Act Four. This ritual, guided by Miester Siva, requires a Ritual Bowl (crafted from a ritual bowl, bloody obsidian lancet, and Blackroot) to unlock the Hall of Echoes and the coveted Night Vision skill.

While the initial ritual ingredients are conveniently located in Siva's basement, subsequent rituals (performed after gaining each Source point) require you to find everything yourself. Locating the ritual bowl and obsidian lancet is usually straightforward, but the Blackroot can be elusive. This guide helps you track it down.

Venture Into Cloisterwood

Cloisterwood, a dense forest northwest of Driftwood on Reaper's Coast, is your target. Once inside, use the left ALT key to highlight all interactable items. You'll find Blackroots at the base of some trees. Collect a few, even though you only need one for the ritual. (This guide avoids spoiling the number of times you'll need to perform the ritual, but remember it's tied to Source points.)

Cloisterwood Exploration Tips

Cloisterwood offers more than just Blackroots. Explore to discover two NPCs (Hannag and Jahan—the latter crucial for Lohse's storyline) who can each grant you a Source point, an undead trader (Eithne), and a challenging witch (best avoided until level 15). Eithne offers a side quest if you choose the "Divine Order" option.

Further north, you'll find a pier and the Dead Ferryman, offering passage to Bloodmoon Island. Beyond these key encounters, Cloisterwood holds many more secrets, including Wrecker's Cave and a potential loremaster amulet obtained by speaking to a ship captain's spirit. Thorough exploration is recommended on your first visit.
