Digimon Con set to unveil new project, could a digital TCG be on the way?

For fans of the beloved Digimon franchise, the upcoming Digimon Con 2025 is poised to be a landmark event. Attendees can anticipate a slew of exciting announcements and updates on future projects within the franchise. However, one particular teaser has sparked significant interest: an image featuring a puzzled Renamon alongside a mobile phone.

The most immediate interpretation of this teaser suggests the possibility of a digital version of the Digimon Trading Card Game (TCG). While Bandai Namco already offers a tutorial app for iOS and Android, the recent launch of Pokémon TCG Pocket sets a precedent for what could be in store. Could Digimon be gearing up to launch a competitor in the mobile TCG space?

It's wise, however, to temper our excitement slightly. The teaser might simply indicate that mobile devices will be used to stream the upcoming livestream later this week, rather than hinting at a new mobile platform for the TCG.

The rivalry between the two was palpable in the late '90s and early 2000s, yet Pokémon has since claimed the crown in global pop culture. For Digimon, venturing into the digital TCG realm wouldn't guarantee an easy victory, but it's not a high-risk move either. The Digimon TCG enjoys a dedicated following, and expanding its accessibility could be a significant achievement. We'll have to tune into the Digimon Con livestream later this month to uncover the full story.
