In the latest wave of "here comes another Stephen King adaptation" news, Netflix is set to unleash a new version of the chilling tale, Cujo. According to Deadline, the streaming giant has tapped Vertigo Entertainment's founder and producer Roy Lee to bring this project to life. However, the film is still in its early stages, with no writers, directors, or cast members attached yet.

Stephen King's novel, Cujo, was first published in 1981 and swiftly adapted into a cult classic horror film in 1983 by screenwriters Don Carlos Dunaway and Barbara Turner, and directed by Lewis Teague. The gripping story centers on a determined mother, portrayed by Dee Wallace, who will go to any lengths to protect her young son from a rabid dog. Trapped in a car with a broken engine, the duo must endure as Cujo, once a gentle dog turned vicious after being bitten by a rabid bat, relentlessly stalks them. With the threat of heatstroke looming, their fight for survival becomes a harrowing ordeal.

Oz Perkins' adaptation of King's short story The Monkey was released in February, and fans can look forward to Glen Powell's take on The Running Man and JT Mollner's adaptation of The Long Walk (also produced by Lee and Vertigo) later this year. Additionally, the IT prequel series Welcome to Derry is set to premiere on HBO. The iconic Carrie is also being reimagined as an eight-episode series on Prime Video, helmed by horror maestro Mike Flanagan.

Stephen King enthusiasts have been enjoying a feast of adaptations, and with Cujo on the horizon, there's even more to savor.
