Critical Role Video Game Announcement Could Arrive 'Any Day,' Travis Willingham Confirms

The wildly popular Dungeons & Dragons show, Critical Role, is on the cusp of launching its first major video game, with CEO Travis Willingham hinting at an imminent announcement – potentially "any day now." This exciting news emerged during a recent interview with Business Insider.

While specifics regarding the game's title and its connection to the Critical Role universe remain under wraps, Willingham confirmed the development team is diligently working on the project. He described the game as offering players the chance to "get their hands on the stick and control the outcome of the story," influencing events involving both beloved characters and new additions to the world of Exandria.

Willingham, himself a prominent Critical Role cast member, co-founded the company alongside fellow voice acting stars Liam O'Brien, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Matthew Mercer, and others. The D&D show's success has spawned a vast universe of content, notably the hit Amazon Prime Video series, Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina.

This upcoming video game will join Critical Role's expanding portfolio, though it won't necessarily be a direct tie-in to existing projects. In December 2024, Willingham told Rolling Stone that the team was actively pursuing a video game spinoff, describing the process as nearing completion after several years of development. Whether the game will adapt a previous campaign or present an original story within the Exandria setting remains to be seen.

While an announcement was initially expected before the end of 2024 or early 2025, Willingham's recent "any day" comment suggests an imminent reveal. He previously explained to Rolling Stone that past collaborations served as "toe dips in the pool," acknowledging the challenges within the interactive entertainment industry and the team's focus on strategic partnerships.

A release date for the Critical Role video game is yet to be announced. In the meantime, fans can look forward to updates on The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4.
