"Coyote vs. Acme Film May Hit Theaters Despite Cancellation"

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 15,2025

According to Deadline, Warner Bros.' shelved film Coyote vs. Acme might be hitting the screens after all. Los Angeles-based Ketchup Entertainment is reportedly in advanced negotiations to acquire the completed movie, which had been previously thought to be entirely abandoned. Although the deal isn't finalized yet, a theatrical release could be on the horizon for 2026 if everything falls into place.

Coyote vs. Acme, announced in 2022 and inspired by Ian Frazier's 1990 New Yorker article of the same name, boasts a screenplay co-written by James Gunn and features actors Will Forte and John Cena. Originally slated for a mid-2023 release on Max, the film was unfortunately shelved despite having completed filming. Since then, a concerted campaign to save it has been in full swing.

Ketchup Entertainment recently made headlines by saving Warner Bros.' The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie from a similar fate. They managed to secure its theatrical release in the US, marking it as the first fully animated Looney Tunes film to grace cinema screens. IGN's review praised it as a “laugh-out-loud riot.”

Ketchup Entertainment's portfolio also includes titles like Hellboy: The Crooked Man and the Robert Rodriguez thriller Hypnotic, starring Ben Affleck. They also co-produced Michael Mann's 2023 Ferrari biopic.
