Cosmo Jarvis Confirmed for Shogun Season 2, Set a Decade Later

Author:Kristen Update:May 25,2025

The critically acclaimed series Shōgun, which swept 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is gearing up for an eagerly anticipated second season. Cosmo Jarvis, who captivated audiences as pilot John Blackthorn, will not only reprise his role but also step into the position of co-executive producer for Season 2, as confirmed by an official FX press release.

Hiroyuki Sanada, the series' lead, who committed to Season 2 last May following the show's renewal from its original limited series format, has been promoted to executive producer. This follows his involvement in producing the first season. Production for the new season is slated to kick off in January 2026, returning to the familiar filming location of Vancouver.

PlayFX has teased that the upcoming season will be "a wholly original new chapter" diverging from the first season, which was an adaptation of James Clavell's novel. The network elaborated on the connection between the two seasons, stating:

"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) fought for his survival as his enemies in the Council of Regents united against him. When a mysterious European ship was found marooned in a nearby village, its English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis) shared vital strategic secrets with Toranaga that tipped the scales of power in his favor to win a century-defining civil war.

"Part two of Shōgun is set 10 years after the events of the first season and continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined.”

Fans can only cross their fingers and hope that new episodes of this stellar series will grace our screens by the end of 2026. Until then, the anticipation builds.
