In *Monster Hunter Wilds*, the apex predator of the Oilwell Basin region is an ancient monster known as the Black Flame, or Nu Udra. Conquering this formidable beast is crucial to safeguarding the village from its threats.
Facing off against Nu Udra in *Monster Hunter Wilds* presents a significant challenge. The monster's massive tentacles extend its reach, complicating evasion strategies. For melee weapon users, these tentacles are the most accessible parts to strike. Severing them not only grants additional materials but also diminishes the monster's offensive capabilities. Exercise caution, as these limbs serve as potent weapons in Nu Udra's arsenal.
Ranged weapon users benefit from a broader range of attack options. The mouth stands out as the prime target, despite its elusive nature due to Nu Udra's near-black skin. Targeting the mouth is advisable given its 4-star weakness rating. Alternatively, the head, with a 3-star weakness to ammo damage, remains a strong choice for inflicting blunt and cut damage.
Given Nu Udra's affinity for fire, utilizing Watermoss becomes essential. The monster not only wields its limbs but also unleashes fiery attacks. At critical moments, Nu Udra may ignite itself, inflicting the Fireblight debuff on nearby hunters. Deploying Watermoss neutralizes this threat, allowing for safer engagements.
To enhance your chances of success against Nu Udra, equipping fire-resistant gear is highly recommended. The Quematrice armor set, featuring the Fire Resistance skill, proves particularly effective. Enhance your defenses further with decorations like the Fire Res Jewel to mitigate fire damage, or the Stream Jewel to boost your water attack capabilities.
Nu Udra's arsenal includes a dangerous grab attack. When too close, the monster may ensnare you with its tentacles, followed by a fiery blast. During the brief pause before the attack, utilize a knife to break free, or target its weak spots with a Slinger to disrupt the attack.

Capturing Nu Udra requires strategic preparation. Equip either a Pitfall or Shock Trap, but refrain from setting it immediately. First, weaken the monster by attacking until it's on the brink of defeat, indicated by a skull icon next to its boss icon. You may use meat as bait to lure Nu Udra into the trap, or simply position yourself behind it while it's focused on you. Once trapped, quickly administer a Tranquilizer to induce sleep; you have a mere five seconds before Nu Udra breaks free.
This guide provides all the essential strategies for defeating and capturing Nu Udra in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. Given the monster's formidable nature, consider leveraging multiplayer to increase your chances of success.
