How to Complete KCD2's Under the Straw Hat Quest

Some quests only become available once you arrive in Kuttenberg. After reaching the city, you can fast travel between regions. With a new area to discover, here’s how to finish the “Under the Straw Hat” quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

How to Start ‘Under the Straw Hat’ in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Before beginning “Under the Straw Hat,” you must first start “In Vino Veritas.” This side quest takes place in Kuttenberg. Once you arrive, speak with Casper Rudolf, who is giving out complimentary wine samples on the west side of town. He asks you to gather information that can help him refine his wine recipe.

You can either approach Havel directly and impress him with your wine expertise, or retrieve Casper’s book from Adleta to study up. If you go straight to Havel, he will only speak with you if you are well-dressed and clean. When you talk to him, select these dialogue options in order: “Germany,” “Steinberger,” and “It’s missing ginger.” This is the only way to obtain the details he holds. Return to Casper and share what you’ve discovered.

Access the Vineyard

Now Casper wants you to sneak into the vineyard north of Kuttenberg and learn more about the incense Havel mentioned. Entering the fields without permission is trespassing. Instead, take the main road into the vineyard and speak with the recruiter. He will give you the side quest “Under the Straw Hat” in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Continue along the road past the guard at the estate entrance until you find Jerome sitting on a bench.

When speaking to Jerome, tell him you were instructed to report for duty. He will then explain how work is organized at the vineyard.

Working at the Vineyard

Note that your shift doesn’t start until the next day. Go back to the inn or another place to sleep, then return in the morning. To earn your pay, move sacks to the correct spots and collect plants like Thistle growing around the vines. Alternatively, skip the chores and head straight for the hidden incense.

The incense is stored in the wine cellar, located inside the main building downstairs from Jerome’s location. Even as a worker, these areas are off-limits, and you’ll face penalties if caught. To enter the cellar, you’ll need either a lockpick or the key stolen from Jerome.

Inside the cellar, locate a chest and take all the Sulphur Wicks. This fulfills the main goal, but you can also collect five seedlings for Casper to earn extra rewards. From the main building’s entrance, go straight ahead to the opposite door to find the seedlings. You’ll be trespassing again, so move quickly to grab them and exit undetected.

If you did your assigned tasks, speak to Jerome at the end of the day to receive your wages. Otherwise, return to Casper and deliver the wicks—and the seedlings if you collected them.

This completes both “Under the Straw Hat” and “In Vino Veritas” in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. You can now take on other side quests, such as “Master Schindel’s Toys.”
