Chocolate Tease: 'Silksong' Devs Stir Switch Pro Rumors

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 24,2025

Six years have passed since Team Cherry announced Hollow Knight: Silksong, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2017 Metroidvania masterpiece, Hollow Knight. During this time, fans have witnessed Silksong's sporadic appearances and disappearances at various gaming events, even a seemingly confirmed pre-June 2023 release by Microsoft. The Game Awards came and went without a Silksong announcement. Could the recently announced Nintendo Switch 2 Direct finally be the unveiling?

Fans believe so, and it all hinges on a cake.

Sharp-eyed members of the Hollow Knight subreddit noticed that on January 15th, Team Cherry's co-director, William Pellen, changed his Twitter/X profile picture to a chocolate cake. Pellen tweeted: "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow."

With rumors circulating about a January 16th Nintendo Switch 2 reveal, the timing was significant. Nintendo indeed announced the Switch 2 on that day, leaving many questions unanswered about the next-gen console. Did Pellen's tweet hint at the Switch 2 reveal? If so, why?

This sparked intense speculation within the Hollow Knight community. Fans reverse-image searched the cake, tracing it to a Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe on Bon Appétit. The recipe's publication date: April 2nd, 2024.

The significance? Nintendo confirmed a Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 for Wednesday, April 2nd, 2025. Fans theorize Pellen initiated an alternate reality game (ARG) with the tweet and cake image.

The speculation continues. Fans are deciphering Pellen's new X/Twitter handle, @everydruidwaswr. One compelling theory suggests the "wr" might be the start of a word, possibly referencing a Silksong NPC, the Druid of the Moss Temple. The 15-character handle limit further fuels this theory.

Adding to the mystery, Pellen adopted a new name: little bomey. While similar to a Southern Australian wine (Team Cherry's location), the slight spelling difference adds to the intrigue.

It's crucial to remember that Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement listed Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch as launch platforms. Six years later, the question remains: Has Nintendo secured Silksong as a Switch 2 launch title? Is it a timed exclusive? Or is this all elaborate fan speculation fueled by anticipation?

We'll have answers in a few months. Until then, explore the announcements from Nintendo's Switch 2 reveal.
