Charlie Cox on His 'Least Favorite' Daredevil Episode: 'I Pushed Back'

The journey from script to screen for "Daredevil: Born Again" was nothing short of tumultuous, marked by numerous revisions and reshapes. However, amidst this whirlwind of changes, one episode managed to remain untouched: Episode 5. Interestingly, this particular episode happens to be the least favorite of its star, Charlie Cox.

"I don't know if this is interesting, but I'll tell you this – there was one episode we didn't alter at all," Cox mentioned during a recent interview with The Playlist.

"This is the bank episode, which was part of the original shoot. We filmed it before the strike. It was part of the original draft, and personally, I wasn’t particularly fond of it."

Play Cox shared with the outlet that he "tried to push back against it as much as I thought was feasible." The episode in question sees Cox’s character, Matt Murdock (a.k.a. Daredevil), caught up in the chaos of a bank heist while trying to secure a loan for the law firm he co-runs with Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll).

"That feels like a 1970s scenario," Cox remarked about the episode. "With today's advanced technology, it doesn’t quite hold up. Plus, I didn’t think the tools used for the robbery were advanced enough."

"I strongly opposed this episode, yet I receive countless messages saying people absolutely love it. It just shows how subjective things are," Cox continued. "Everyone has different tastes. Interestingly, internally, when they assess ratings, it’s one of the highest-rated Disney shows they’ve produced."

In fact, we thoroughly enjoyed Episode 5. As mentioned in our review of Daredevil: Born Again Episodes 5 and 6, "It’s all so brilliantly executed. I can’t recall the last time a Marvel show had me grinning from ear to ear throughout the entire episode and utterly absorbed from beginning to end. This episode also highlights something crucial given the scarcity of Daredevil thus far: it showcases what makes Matt Murdock such a distinctive and remarkable hero, even when he’s not in costume."
