Captain America: Brave New World Is One of the Shortest Marvel Cinematic Universe Films

Author:Kristen Update:Mar 21,2025

Captain America: Brave New World isn't just the shortest Captain America film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU); it's one of the shortest MCU films, period. AMC Theatres confirmed a runtime of one hour and 58 minutes, placing it among the few MCU entries under two hours and making it the seventh shortest of the 35 films released to date. This is a significant departure from the previous three Captain America films, all of which clocked in over two hours.

While most of the shorter MCU films hail from Phases 1 and 2, a few more recent exceptions exist. The shortest MCU film is 2022's The Marvels at one hour and 45 minutes, followed by The Incredible Hulk, Thor: The Dark World, Thor, Doctor Strange, and Ant-Man. Brave New World shares its runtime with Ant-Man and the Wasp, both clocking in at one hour and 58 minutes. In contrast, the longest MCU film, Avengers: Endgame, runs for a hefty three hours and one minute, followed by Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Eternals, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Arriving on February 14th, Brave New World reportedly underwent extensive rewrites and reshoots, including scenes featuring WWE star Seth Rollins. The impact of these changes on the final runtime remains unclear.

This first Captain America film post-Chris Evans' Steve Rogers stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson. Mackie promises a continuation of the grounded, espionage-driven adventures that define the Captain America series. The film is also poised to introduce deep-cut characters from Marvel lore, including a payoff to a tease from The Incredible Hulk through the introduction of The Leader and Red Hulk.
